Mishkan began early in 1984 as a project of the United Christian Council in Israel, with the first issue appearing in the summer of that year. A number of evangelical and Messianic ministries cooperated in its production; however, special notice should be made of the extraordinary contribution that was made by Caspari Center for Biblical and Jewish Studies. In 2001, Caspari assumed the role of publisher and continued to devote enormous resources to develop the quality and appearance of Mishkan, along with the continued cooperation and support of other like-minded individuals and organizations. The Pasche Institute of Jewish Studies has assumed responsibilities as publisher since April of 2007. Still, Mishkan continues to enjoy a broad base of support from a wide variety of denominational and ministry-oriented organizations.
For the first decade, editorial supervision was given by Ole Chr. M. Kvarme, whose role changed with his move from Israel. He continued to give general editorial supervision, but more of the load fell to Baruch Maoz and other associate editors until the summer of 1993, when Torleif Elgvin picked up where Baruch Maoz had left off. By the summer of 1995, Torleif Elgvin continued to serve as an associate editor, but the new general editor was Kai Kjaer-Hansen, who has served in that capacity to the present.
Mishkan is proud of its heritage and of the outstanding contributions that have been made by scholars, editors, and artists to its production. We hope to continue to make a valuable contribution to the ongoing discussion at the nexus of those concerned with the Good News of Israel’s Messiah and the Jewish people.
