Toward the end of the first century biblical Judaism gave birth to two daughter religions, Pharisaic Judaism and Nazarene Judaism. The elder daughter built a fence and became Rabbinic Judaism; the younger daughter opened her gates and became Christianity. This book is an introductory overview of how these two have related to each other over the centuries. How did they treat each other, write about each other, try to convert each other? The title of the book, And the Children Struggled, is taken from Genesis 25:22.

This book was written as part of the library of teaching materials of the Caspari Center for Biblical and Jewish Studies in Jerusalem. It has in mind the Messianic Jewish reader, who has the genes of the elder daughter and the faith of the younger, as well as the non-Jewish Christian who is interested in relations between the faiths.

Pasche Institute of Jewish Studies, together with Caspari Center for Biblical and Jewish Studies, has published this outstanding work as the Winter-Spring 2007 issue of the journal Mishkan. It is included in the subscription price or can be purchased individually.
