This issue of Mishkan is an excellent summary of late 19th and early 20th century Jewish missions in Europe. Joseph Rabinowitz is covered by the author who later went on to wrote an entire book on him. The key figures in the various "Jewish Institutes" (Institutum Judaicum) are covered such as Delitzsch, Dalman (his successor), and Strack. (These institutes were post-graduate schools where students took seminar courses on Hebrew translation of the NT, Yiddish, Rabbinics, Jewish mysticism, and apologetics from the source texts (e.g. Hizzuk Emunah) in preparation for Jewish missionary work.) Delitzsch and the others were seminal figures who combined Christian scholarship on Judaism with a supporting or active role in Jewish evangelism. The various articles in this issue give excellent summaries in English by German scholars who wrote entire biographies or histories in German about them. All in all, this issue is a good introduction to the key figures of one of the most important periods in the history of Jewish evangelism
